Invictus Gaming have become the fifth team since the end of 2022 to leave the Apex Legends competitive esports scene, with the organisation citing a lack of sustainability and support from the games developer, EA.

The Chinese-owned organisation signed the roster of Endeavour – an EMEA team that competed in the 2021 EMEA Split One Championship, where they finished in sixth place.

After disappointing results at the Apex Legends Global Series 2022 Split 2 Playoffs, 2022 Championship and 2023 Split 1 Playoffs, IG have made the decision to pull out of the Apex Legends professional scene.

IG have since released their roster of Cameron noiises Walker, Jake “Jmw Walters, Martin Graceful Wongphrom and substitute Brrynn brynn Corbet.

With North American organisations such as Team Liquid, G2 Esports, Cloud9 and Spacestation Gaming also choosing to leave the Apex Legends competitive scene, there seems to be a worrying trend appearing.

Team Liquid were the first of the North American-owned esports organisation to pull the pin, with CEO Steve Arhancet taking aim at the ALGS and its organisers stating that Liquid strives to only participate in games where the developers support the teams, so the teams can support their players in turn.

The latest NA outfit to leave the competitive scene is Spacestation Gaming, with CEO Shawn Unit Pellerin saying that without a fair rev share partnership to help with sustainability, its hard to justify continuing to invest.

Going into the EMEA Split 2, some 10 of the 30 teams that will participate are unsigned rosters.

??Apex Legends has had an incredibly successful year, with the 13th season setting a new record on Steam with over 400,000 concurrent players on the PC platform for the first time. ??

The new set record was reached after the season launched with the latest new character included in the game – ‘Newcastle’ – and changes to the players ranked mode and the map Storm Point. This is coming three years after launch and a year after its release on Steam, as it continues to surpass its own record.

??In the previous seasons, players faced issues that hampered their playing experience. An example of these issues faced was server instability. As a result of these several technical issues, dips were caused in FPS, and thereby fear of repetition left room for doubt concerning the recent 13th season. ??However, due to the new milestone achieved, it seems the players arent expressing technical difficulties in the game.

During Season 12 of the game, which launched on February 19, it managed to set a record of 393,000 concurrent players on Steam, which was much higher than the Season 9 record of 330,879 concurrent players during its launch in May 2021.??

According to Alpha Intel, the game reached an all-time high of 412,556 players on Steam, and this doesnt include the player base on platforms other than PC, except EAs PC platform and all consoles where Apex is available. Its quite possible that if all of the platforms were accounted for, the concurrent players might have surpassed 1 million.??

Apex Legends hit a new all-time peak player count on Steam for the Season 13 launch. Over 400,000 concurrent players on Steam for the first time ever,?? Alpha Intel reported via Twitter.

Electronic Arts revealed on May 10 that Apex Legends had generated over $2 billion in earnings since its launch in 2019. A mobile version of the game – Apex Legends Mobile – is scheduled to be released later in May 2022 and is said to support cross-platform play.

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have announced the Apex Legends Global Series – an international multi-tournament esports event with US $3 million in the prize pool.

While Apex Legends became an instant hit after its launch in February 2019, the game has not seen much action in the esports scene besides Twitch Rivals, X-Games and most recently the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational. However, things took a big leap forward with Tuesday’s announcement.

The Apex Legends Global Series is set to begin on January 25, 2020. It will be comprised of 12 global live events, held by either EA/Respawn, PGL, or Global Loot League, in addition to online competitions which will take place throughout the season.

The first event in the Apex Legends Global Series will be an online tournament where players will compete to earn qualifying points and an invitation to the first offline Major, set to take place in March 2020.

Following the first online tournament, two more will take place on February 29 and March 2. The premier event is set to take place less than two weeks later at Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The first Major of the series, as well as the next two, will feature 100 three-player squads, with the fourth and finals Major of the season – the Apex Legends Global Series Championship – set to feature only the top 60 teams.

The competition will be available to PC players from over 60 countries. Anyone wishing to participate in the series will have to fill out a registration form which will become available in early January, two weeks prior to the first online tournament.

Players who want to compete in Apex Legends Global Series will first and foremost have to be of legal age, meaning over 16 years in Japan and over 18 in Russia or South Korea. Other rules and restrictions can be found on the Apex Legends website.

“Apex Legends is one of the most impactful launches in videogame history and it possesses immense esports potential,” said John Nelson, Senior Director and Commissioner of Apex Legends Competitive Gaming at EA.

“Through close communication with our community, weve built an accessible Apex Legends ecosystem where any player can become a potential star while the world watches our unique, entertaining take on Battle Royale esports.

CEO of Respawn Entertainment Vince Zampella added that “competition is at the heart of Apex Legends” and that he believes the Global Series will play a pivotal role in the future of Apex Legends esports.

While the launch of the Apex Legends Global Series is a huge step forward, the announcement left PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fans in the lurch. There are no announcements yet as to whether or not controllers will be permitted in the Global Series.

A Reddit user named hagennn recently unveiled a mysterious bug in Apex Legends which gave his friend 7,000 Apex Coins out of the blue. It was later proven he was not the only player to discover the fault.

Apex Coins are the in-game currency of Apex Legends. They are only obtainable via real money transactions, but the newly discovered bug just might have implemented an exception to that rule.

The issue was revealed to the public on Sunday, December 1, when hagennn made a post in r/apexlegends which read: “My buddy just got disconnected from the server and randomly received 7,000 premium currency.”

In the post a picture showed an unknown account with 7,700 Apex Coins, suggesting the said account already had 700 coins prior to the bug awarding an additional 7,000.

Some Redditors believed it was simply a visual bug, which is not uncommon with disconnects, but it was later revealed the bug had in fact gifted hagennn’s friend 7,000 coins, which he later spent on Apex packs.

The Reddit community quickly took notice of the generous bug and jumped at the opportunity to get all the details about what hagennn’s friend did to trigger it.

In the comment section, hagennn revealed his friend did not do anything out of the ordinary. He simply joined a lobby, got disconnected and logged in to be greeted by a generous amount of Apex Coins. While the Redditor at first claimed he had already tried and failed to replicate the feat, hagennn later revealed he also managed to activate the bug and collect 2,150 Apex Coins.

Other Apex Legends players have since verified the bug’s existence, meaning hagennn and his friend are not alone in this boat. Respawn Entertainment is yet to comment on the issue, but the Apex community is hard at work trying to decrypt the bug.

One theory claims the bug occurs when two accounts are logged into the same internet connection. That seems to be a recurring theme with players who have unlocked free Apex Coins, including hagennn and his friend.

It is said that being disconnected while using more than one account on the same network fools the game into mixing up the two accounts’ identities. Because of that, the in-game system notices one of the accounts is missing a certain amount of Apex Coins from previous purchases and awards them to the wrong player.

Since the bug was revealed, a multitude of Apex Legends players have reportedly seen the bug in action. Some claim to have received upwards to 75,000 coins, which equates to over US $700 if a player were to buy packs of 10,000 coins at $99.99 each.

This is not the first time players have reported a bug involving Apex Legends currency. A Reddit user who goes by the alias paintings1 created a post nine months ago in which he claimed he was randomly awarded 42,450 premium currency. While that post did not gain as much traction as the one made by hagennn last weekend, it does indicate the bug might have been in the game for a while.

It remains to be seen how Respawn will react once the company identifies and fixes the bug. Recouping coins from players that exploited the bug will be nearly impossible, while punishing players that took advantage of a developmental flaw would not go down well in the broader gaming community.

One thing is for sure: the Apex Coin bug is one of many that have plagued the third season of Apex Legends and possibly the most impactful fault to hit the game to date.

Season three of Apex Legends is slowly winding down and players are trying their best to figure out the release date and new features for the upcoming campaign.

While Respawn has made very little known about when and how Apex Legends Season 4 will begin, enough information has surfaced to make some speculations.

After reaching an all-time high with 70 million players at the end of October, Respawn announced some big plans that suggest the developers could be looking to shake things up with much more than just a new map and a new legend.

While we can be certain Apex Legends will come with a handful of new features for the next season, which is scheduled to kick off sometime in December 2019.

However, all of the previous three Apex Legends seasons started a month later than expected, so there is a fair chance the fourth season will not commence until 2020.

There are still two big questions that need an answer:

– Will there be a new legend?
– Will season four have new weapons?

As Respawn introduced Octane in season one, Wattson in season two and Crypto in season three, there is a reasonable expectation that we will see another new legend in season four.

Unlike last time, when there were plenty of hints Crypto might be joining the Apex Legends roster, there are close to no clues for the mysterious S4 legend.

Some leaks suggest the new face in the arena could be the as-yet-unreleased Reckoner, which was unveiled by data miner That1MiningGu on Saturday, November 2.

The information is similar scarce concerning new weapons, which have also become a staple season-by-season release.

What we do know for sure is the price of the Apex Legends Battle Pass, which remains at 950 Apex Coins. That means players will have to pick up 1,000 coins from the store for $10/9/7.99.

Respawn Entertainment has revealed Apex Legends Season 3 will introduce duo mode, but only for a limited time.

The battle royale title has remained a three-man squad game since its release in February 2019, giving players no other option than to find two more friends to play with or join forces with one or two other Apex players via game’s matchmaking system.

The whole game, including the mechanic of the fights, is designed for three-person squads, who combine their abilities and help out each other with cover fire, heals, and revivals, among other things.

This approach to the gameplay and the idea behind combining three unique heroes has earned Apex Legends a massive following, amassing 70 million registered players as of Wednesday, October 30.

That said, there was an ever-growing demand for Respawn to add alternative game modes, and the developers listened to the community’s desires by adding a solo mode for the second season.

While the addition gained a lot of positive feedback, Respwan stood firm with their decision to offer solo play for a limited time and removed the option after only two weeks.

Despite the constant demand from Apex’s fans for Respawn to re-add the solo mode or create new gameplay options, the developers remained quiet up until this week’s announcement that duo mode will arrive on November 5.

While the release date has been unveiled, Respawn has not yet revealed how long the two-player mode will remain available for.

Duo mode will allow players to queue with a friend or solo, in which case a random player will be added to their squad.

With only two players on the squad, duo mode is said to add some additional flare to the game, where heroes’ abilities and combinations will be far more significant than they were in solo mode.

This will also shake up the meta, just as Wraith or Pathfinder proved to be two of the strongest heroes to use for a solo venture.
