Utah Ex-Legislator arrested for a marijuana grow op

This is something that was sent to me today.  It is such a relief to find a reasonable and brave legislator in Utah who will stand up for what they belief in despite the opinion of the status quo.

SALT LAKE CITY — A former state lawmaker and director of the Crossroads Urban Center was arrested this week after investigators busted what they described as a “large marijuana grow.”

Jeff Fox, 62, was arrested Tuesday by Salt Lake police at his home, 149 S. Windsor. Officers serving a warrant found 16 pounds of packaged marijuana, 30 mature marijuana plants, 169 “starter” plants and psychedelic mushrooms found in the bedroom closet, according to police reports.

I hope a bright and reasonable attorney will stand up for this man!

How can you say he is standing up for what he believes? He hid his Marijuana in a closet! Then he resisted arrest when he was caught!

So far all I see from this article is the guy was growing and selling Marijuana and it looks like mushrooms too!

  2. If he believes in ganja, then he did what he believes is right, and for many years fought for the poor and helpless in Utah. This man appears to stand up more than most for what he believes. Have you served as a legislator?

"If he believes in Ganja?" How about if he believes in Capitalism? 16 pounds of Marijuana (by whatever name you think is cool this week) is worth a lot of money! At least $38,000 if it's good!

He has never made any public statements about legalizing pot. He never introduced legislation to legalize pot. He does not have a job at least not in the public sector as of the date of his arrest! I have not been able to find any information about him being an advocate for homeless, unemployed or otherwise downtrodden people, that he wasn't paid for!

Having a good paying job, that takes care of people, does not indicate that he cares about people, it just indicates that he got a job that payed him to help people!

I find it interesting that you believe a man who has never made any public statements about legalizing pot, but was simply arrested for having a large quantity in what appeared to be a cultivation and distribution operation, was standing up for what he believes! Notice the police report does not say they caught him smoking marijuana, nor did it say they also found paraphernalia in the home, which Utah police love to report! So is he a consumer/grower/salesman or is he just taking advantage of the people he used to help by selling them marijuana, but doesn't smoke it himself?

It's easy to see what you want to see in a news report but just because you see it does not prove its there!

  4. Maybe he believes in having pot for himself. And maybe he feels justified by the fact that ganja is ordained in Genesis 1:29 as being good for use as meat "every herb that bear seed". And if so, then what he did was not illegal, because it is defended by the 1st Amendment.

As for if he was selling or not. I think you are assuming. The news report also didn't have any details about clients, or excess funds.

Former Utah legislator and homeless advocate Jeff Fox is scheduled for trial in federal court later this month on child pornography and drug charges.

    • I think you are jumping to conclusions, a charge doesn’t automatically equate to guilt. You should read more about how our justice system works.
Hugh Nibley was accused by his daughter of molesting her. Does that make the accusation true? Get a life!
